
Sciatica
Sciatica - pain and/or altered sensation in the buttock, back of the leg and foot due to compression or irritation of the Sciatic Nerve or its nerve roots.Causes include:
- Osteoarthritis of the spinal joints
- Degeneration or injury to the vertebral discs
- Muscle stiffness due to poor posture, overuse or injury
Treatment:
- Stretching, massage and articulation techniques
- Rehabilitation and stretching programme
- Aftercare advice
- Preventative and postural advice
Please note:
Very occasionally Sciatica is accompanied by loss of bladder/bowel control together with altered sensation in both inner thighs and buttocks.
These symptoms are very rare but require immediate medical attention to avoid permanent nerve damage.
